A Grounded Thermocouple Probe has the thermocouple juction in firm Contact with the Inside Tip of the metal tube, sheath or mounted housing. Typically the 2 thermocouple wires forming the juction are welded to or part of the inside tip

• Grounded thermocouples are a very popular design although they can 
  experience Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) from motors, power supplies and other devices resulting in temperature measurement errors.
• The metal sheath can be a potential antenna or conductor.
• The temperature signal generated is a very small milivolt signal and is more susceptible to interference than a miliamp or other signal output.
